Microsoft Word Dictionary

We have decided to offer a version of a scientific dictionary .dic file for use with Microsoft Word and other word processors. This science dictionary contains thousands of terms amassed from years of copyediting scientific, medical, mathematical, financial, engineering and computer science texts, which most authors, editors, proofreaders and academics will find useful. This Microsoft Word dictionary .dic (which can also be used in OpenOffice, WinEdt, etc.) contains terms from a variety of fields as diverse as chemistry, physics, astrology, economics, medicine, biology, programming and pure and applied mathematics, derived from our experience in these numerous areas over the years. There is a small charge for this dictionary (£3.50/about US$5.75), which includes a donation of £1.00 (US$1.60) which will be given to a different charity each year (chosen charity for 2009 is Help for Heroes). We will update the dictionary on a (roughly) monthly basis, and the purchase price will include free updates by email for 12 months. Please click the button below to pay securely with Paypal.*

*You must click Return to Merchant after paying to start the download. Please contact us if you have any questions or problems.

Opening Microsoft Word 2007 documents

A patch is available to open and edit Word 2007 documents (.docx format) in older versions of Word. This will allow you to convert .doxc to .doc or even save in the .docx format using previous versions of Word. Supported versions go back as far as Office 2000, so could save you a fortune if you do not wish to upgrade yet.

Using the natbib.sty package

If Harvard references are used in a LaTeX document, we highly recommend the use of the natbib.sty package. It provides consistent and accurate citations in any style you like which will also always match the information given in the reference list (as the citations are called in through \cite, rather than having to be keyed in and checked against the reference list). If used in combination with BibTeX, it can save hours in an editing job as well as improving accuracy.
